'Incredibles' derails 'Express'

LOS ANGELES - Santa Claus could not conquer "The Incredibles."

The cartoon hit retained the top slot at the box office for a second weekend, taking in $50.2 million to fend off animated newcomer "The Polar Express," a Christmas tale that debuted at No. 2 with $23.5 million.

The heist flick "After the Sunset," with Pierce Brosnan, Salma Hayek and Woody Harrelson, opened in third place with $11.1 million, studio estimates showed Sunday.

Getting a jump on its full premiere next weekend, Renee Zellweger's sequel "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason" began in narrower release and came in at No. 5 with $8.6 million.
