Edward J. Killean

Edward J. Killean, 82, formerly of 208 Home Ave., died Monday at Lowery House.

Born March 18, 1922, in Butler, he was a son of Edward J. Sr., and Irene Zang Killean.

He retired in 1982 from the metallurgical department at Armco-Butler Works after more than 40 years. He was a member of the Armco Veterans Club.

Mr. Killean, an avid hunter and golfer, was a charter member of the Armco Golf Club and the Oneida Valley Bow Hunters. He also enjoyed bowling.

He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic and Knights of Columbus Council 866.

During World War II, he served as a B-24 bomber pilot in the Army Air Corps. He was a member of the VFW Post 249.

He is survived by two sons, Dennis E. Killean of Butler and Douglas C. Killean of Mars; four daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Carole) Luketich of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. John (Cynthia) Curzi and Candace L. Kramer, both of Butler, and Mrs. Steve (Charlotte) Beachem of West Sunbury. Also surviving are six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

His wife, Luella J. "Lu" Minehart Killean, whom he married April 18, 1944, died Dec. 2, 2001. A sister also preceded him in death.

KILLEAN - Friends of Edward J. Killean, who died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St. Burial will follow at Butler County Memorial Park, Butler Township.Members of Knights of Columbus Council 866 will recite the rosary at 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.The St. Paul Guild and Christian Mothers will recite the rosary at 9:35 a.m. Friday at the church.The VFW Post 249 Honor Squad will accord military honors.Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Foundation, 1009 Duquesne Blvd., Duquesne, PA 15110.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
