Freeport's Sarver 13th at state meet
Freeport senior Shane Sarver finished 13th in the Class AA boys field at the PIAA cross country championships Saturday in Hershey.
Sarver, who made his second straight trip to the state event, finished with a time of 16 minutes, 50 seconds.
Karns City finished in 21st place out of 24 schools in the boys team standings. The Gremlins were led by Travis Hendell's 18:24, which was good for 149th out of 281 competitors.
The area's top boys Class AAA finisher was Butler senior James Rogerson, who came in 44th with a time of 17:00.
Freeport's Kirsten Knappenberger finished in 143rd place with a 21:48 in the girls Class AA competition.

The Slippery Rock lost the District 10 Class AA championship game to Harbor Creek by a score of 5-0 Saturday in Meadville."The kids weren't too upset," said Rockets' coach Anthony Buzzard. "For the most part, they were just happy to be playing for the district title."The road doesn't get any easier for Slippery Rock. The Rockets will face WPIAL champion Thomas Jefferson at Shaler High School at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the first round of the PIAA playoffs."We know it's going to be tough," said Buzzard. "(Thomas Jefferson) beat Harbor Creek earlier this season."
Slippery Rock team saw its season come to an end Saturday when it lost a 2-0 playoff match to Meadville by scores of 25-15 and 25-14.The Rockets (10-6) were led by Kristen Staugh's 10 assists. Jess Speicher and Erica Grabreski both added five digs.The loss marked the final match for seniors Sarah Yakima, Jess Kelly and Hillary Pritts.
