Tyler Brooks and Michael Randolph scored two goals each as the Mars varsity hockey team opened its season with a 14-0 win over Ferndale Tuesday night.

The Planets had a 40-8 edge in shots on goal.

Bryan Ross played the first two periods in goal and Andy Whiteford played the final period for Mars.

The Planets host Johnstown at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Beau Bechtel scored three goals and added an assist Monday Butler opened its season with an 8-0 win over Fox Chapel.Zach Pennington added two goals and R.C. Double had a goal and three assists. Maverik Geophert and Cam Schuler also scored for the Golden Tornado.Tanner Master had three assists, with Warren Schultz, Ben Beers and Derrick Hays adding one each.

Knoch's Jeff Lyons and Alex Schaffer each scored a goal, but Mars defeated the Knights 3-2. Graham Hollenberger, Scott Olmstead and R.J. Hughes recorded assists. The names of the Mars scorers were not provided.
