LAS VEGAS - Greg Anderson set the single-season record for wins with his 14th Pro Stock victory Sunday at the ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals.
Anderson, racing in a record 18th final round this season, picked up his 30th career win with a run of 6.796 seconds at 202.52 mph at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Runner-up Jason Line finished in 6.822 at 201.85.
HAMPTON, Ga. - Matt Kenseth held off Ryan Newman to win the International Race of Champions and clinch the series championship Saturday. Kenseth went 2-for-2 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, also winning the Aaron's 312 Busch Series race.
BOSTON - Hundreds of thousands of fans jammed streets and the banks of the Charles River on Saturday to celebrate the Boston Red Sox first World Series title since 1918.The Red Sox were given a victory parade on land and water, winding from the streets near Fenway Park past Boston Common and City Hall and then onto the Charles aboard 17 amphibious vehicles.Pedro Martinez was hit in the forehead by a baseball thrown from the banks of the Charles while riding on a boat, but the star pitcher was not seriously injured.
STOCKHOLM, Sweden - Andre Agassi lost the Stockholm Open tennis final in a third-set tiebreaker to Sweden's Thomas Johansson, who won 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4) Sunday to capture this tournament for the second time.Johansson, a former Australian Open champion, rallied from a set down before a packed Royal Tennis Hall crowd that included Agassi's wife, Steffi Graf.
BASEL, Switzerland - Jiri Novak of the Czech Republic won the Swiss Indoors for his first indoor tennis title, defeating David Nalbandian in five sets Sunday in a final in which the Argentine smashed two rackets.Novak, who was not seeded, won 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2, giving him two titles this season and seven for his career.
