French horn master

Bill Purvis, a 1966 Butler High School graduate, spent time Friday morning listening to the music students at Emily Brittain Elementary School perform. Before the performance, Purvis shows his French horn to sixth graders Jerrah Thomas and Ben Frances. Purvis, an internationally known French horn player, was in the community to perform as part of a duo recital with his wife, piano soloist Mihae Lee, for the silver anniversary of the Butler High School Distinguished Graduate Award. The recital is at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Butler County Community College Succop Theater. Proceeds will benefit the Golden Tornado Scholastic Foundation. The distinguished graduate award is given each year to a Butler alumni who has made a difference in the world. Purvis is a recipient of the award. Purvis attended Emily Brittain. Several other distinguished graduate recipients will attend the event on Sunday.
