Knoch boys soccer, volleyball bow from playoffs

Midfielder Ben Greiner scored Knoch's lone goal in the 36th minute of play, but the Knights dropped a 6-1 decision to Southmoreland in a WPIAL Class AA first-round boys soccer playoff game Tuesday night.

Southmoreland's Dave Brambey broke the ice with a goal early in the first half, and the Scotties proved too much for visiting Knoch (12-5), who trailed 5-1 at halftime.

Southmoreland (14-2-1) will take on Moon in the second round.

Slippery Rock 3, Oil City 2 -

Ryan Zarichnak scored two goals and Drew Craig added one for the Rockets (17-1-1).

Ford City 3, Knoch 2 -Kariane Stuebgen tallied 10 kills and eight service points, but the Knights (10-5) lost this WPIAL Class AA play-in match to the Sabers at North Allegheny High School by scores of 19-25, 25-14, 25-21, 20-25 and 16-18.Ford City advances to battle West Shamokin in the first round.
