Vocalist Sarah Wilson, 16, of Chicora is due to release a demo CD of contemporary county music in December or January. The CD, "Sarah Wilson," is being produced by Bill Schrecengost of Galaxy Recording Studio in Hooker.

Studio musicians on the tape include Ken Karsh, a guitar professor at Duquesne University. Karsh recently released his album "Ventana." Two years ago he was the only jazz guitarist chosen to perform at the International Guitar Festival in Mexico.

Ron Fudoli, owner of Fudoli Music in Butler, will play bass. Fudoli has performed on more than 150 albums and formerly played bass guitar for drummer Buddy Rich.

John Schmidt, the drummer, attended Berkley College along with Karsh.

Songs on the CD were written by Bill Lafferty of Butler.

Once complete, the demo will be distributed by an agent in Cleveland.

Phyllis Laporte has been elected to a second term as president of Soroptimist International of Butler County.Other officers include president-elect Teri Miller and vice president Deb Moran.Laporte plans to focus on service and community. For her president's project, she will help flood victims by working with the United Way.

Using 1,700 golf balls and a little ingenuity, the Butler P.M. Rotary Club raised $11,500 for charity last month during the Fall Ethnic Festival in Butler.The funds will be used for the Special Kids Zone at Alameda Park, which is being sponsored by the Butler A.M. Rotary Club.The fund-raising effort consisted of the golf balls being dropped from a 30-foot fire ladder. The golf balls were purchased for $10 each, with a $1,000 paid to the ball that landed in a designated hole beneath the ladder.Ken Blair of Sarver won the $1,000.

Victoria Poncy, a 7-year-old second grader from Mars Primary Center recently was presented a $104 passbook savings account from Mars National Bank for her winning design of a holiday card.In addition, the Mars Primary Center was awarded $500 for its art education department.The bank conducted its first holiday card contest by inviting children kindergarten through fourth grade from Seneca Valley, Mars, Knoch and Pine-Richland to create a drawing or painting of their favorite holiday scene.The winning design will be used as the 2004 Mars National Bank holiday card.

The Butler Rotary Club recently presented four checks for $1,000 to the Butler chapters of the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, the United Way and the Butler County Community Action and Development Organization.The donations will be used for flood relief.

Winners of the Butler cross country team's Duck Race fund-raising event were Joan Lindsay, Mike Davanzati, Jim Leary, Keith Casey and David Smith.
