Grove City blanks Sharon, 47-0

The Grove City High School football team took another step toward solidifying a playoff spot with a 47-0 thumping of Sharon Friday night.

The Eagles (6-2 overall, 6-1 in Region 3, Class AA) recorded their fifth shutout in their last six games and have given up just 14 points since a 21-14 loss in the second week of the season to Greenville.

Jack Vallely scored on touchdown runs of 33 and 1 and Jesse Alfreno also scored on a 22-yard gallop to spearhead the Grove City offense.

Vallely finished with 82 yards on eight carries.

Jim Jaskowak threw for 103 yards and hooked up with Adam Rudolph on a 20-yard scoring pass in the first quarter.

Despite the win, Grove City can't win the Region. That honor belongs to Greenville, which beat Reynolds to sew up the title.

The Eagles, though, are in prime shape to grab one of the two at-large bids into the District 10, Class AA playoffs.
