Mars girls win Fredom race
Brittany Zaborowski and Katie Dederer finished third and eighth, respectively, to lead the Mars girls cross country team to a first-place performance at the Freedom Cross Country Invitational at Brush Creek Park Wednesday.
There were 25 teams in the girls race.
In the boys meet, the Planets finished fourth out of 26 teams, led by Cody Kier's fifth-place showing with a time of 17 minutes, 58 seconds.
The boys junior varsity team also garnered first place out of 14 schools as four runners placed in the top 10 and seven in the top 30.

Grove City 4, Conneaut Valley 0 -The Eagles (13-0-2, 10-0-2) received two goals each from Ashley McKnight and Helen Phipps. McKnight added an assist.Slippery Rock 4, Hickory 0 -Jence Rhoads and Liz Bicehouse both scored twice for the Rockets.The shutout was shared by goalies Robin Craig and Allison Perry.Karns City 4, Brookville 3 -Brittni Grenninger scored twice while Michelle Sweeney and Adrienne Olzak each scored once for the Gremlins (15-4), who outshot the Raiders 35-10.
