Zimmerman sparks Freeport to victory over Valley
Brian Zimmerman threw a pair of touchdown passes and scored once himself as Freeport defeated Valley, 18-13, in high school football Friday night.
The victory keeps the Yellowjackets (5-3, 3-3) alive in the WPIAL Class AA playoff race.
Zimmerman hooked up with Chris Plocki for a 7-yard scoring pass to break a scoreless tie in the second quarter.
With Valley (5-3, 4-2) leading 13-12 in the third period, Zimmerman found Kiel Conjack for a 27-yard touchdown strike.
Zimmerman scored on a 5-yard run for Freeport's other points.
Curtis Carion scored on a pair of 1-yard runs for Valley.

The Eagles (5-2, 5-1) won their fifth straight and solidified their hopes for an at-large playoff berth in the District 10 playoffs as quarterback Jim Jaskowak threw two touchdown passes to Dan Wise and added three touchdown runs.
Jaskowak threw for 134 yards.
Mercer (1-6, 1-5) was limited to three first downs and nine yards of net offense.
Hickory 21, Slippery Rock 7 -
Hickory quarterback Nick Lumpp threw two touchdown passes and rushed for 102 yards as the Hornets (4-3, 4-2) eliminated Slippery Rock from playoff contention.
Trevor Gallo rushed for 126 yards for the Rockets (3-4, 2-4).
Clarion-Limestone 57, Union 12 -
C-L quarterback Hayden Johnston became the first in District 9 history to throw for 4,000 yards and rush for 2,000 in his career.
Johnston completed eight of 11 passes for 237 yards and five touchdowns against Union (0-7, 0-6). Erik White and David Brooks caught two touchdown passes each, and Scott David rushed for two TDs for C-L (7-0, 5-0).
Colton Davis had 15 carries for 76 yards and Clint Lineman scored on a 3-yard run for the Golden Knights.
Laurel 34, Summit Academy 6 -
Ray Pollum threw three touchdown passes for Laurel (7-1, 6-0), which led 27-6 by halftime.
Colleal Cottom had 21 carries for 84 yards and a touchdown for Summit Academy (0-8).
Butler 2, South Park 0 -Lindsay Hohn scored both goals for the Golden Tornado in this Hampton Tournament game Friday.Knoch 8, Ellwood City 0 -Amanda Sharbaugh and P.J. Abels scored two goals each for the Knights (13-6-1) in their regular-season finale as the team qualified for the WPIAL playoffs.Eva Gudding, Nicole Reiser, Elizabeth Hill and Brea Thrower also scored for Knoch.
