Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class

Shandy Gonzalez

has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

She is the daughter of Audrey Gonzalez of Evans City.

Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Audra Schnell

has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Schnell of Karns City.

Schnell is a 2004 graduate of Karns City High School.

Two area Marines, Lance Cpl.

William Anspach and Cpl. Kevin Boyd, and more than 2,100 Marines and Sailors assigned to the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, have been working in Najaf, Iraq, after fighting in the city ceased Aug. 28.

Members of the 11th MEU have the goal of restoring normalcy for the citizens of Najaf. Their immediate concerns are preparing schools for Iraq's children along with the reconstruction of hospitals, roads and bridges.

Anspach, son of Deborah Anspach of Harrisville and David Anspach, Jr. of Blandon, Berks County, is a 2002 graduate of Fleetwood High School in Berks County, and joined the Marine Corps in June 2002.

Boyd, son of Phillip Boyd of Gibsonia, is a 2001 graduate of Hampton High School and joined the Marine Corps in June 2001.

During October, Edward Heeter, regional representative of the Governor's Outreach and Assistance Center, will have office hours at the Butler Armory, 250 Kriess Road, Room 113, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Veterans who need assistance at times other than the scheduled hours can call the center at 800-442-6815 or 724-837-7988 to make arrangements.

The GVOAC also has announced the following:

Veterans who served during World War II and have the Combat Infantry Badge or Combat Medic Badge are entitled to another decoration.

Information is available for veterans who want to be on the World War II Memorial Registry.
