BCCC volleyball sweeps pair of matches

The Butler County Community College volleyball team picked up a pair of victories at a Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference dual tri-match Wednesday.

In the first match, Autumn Burke had nine kills and five aces, Katherine Smith had eight kills and Sarah Morley 24 assists in a 30-17, 30-15 win over Pitt-Titusville.

In the second match, Katie Jewart had 11 kills, Burke seven kills and six aces and Morley 24 assists in a 30-14, 30-23 triumph over Potomac State.

All six WPCC squads were in attendance at the BC3 Fieldhouse with each playing two matches.

The Pioneers (12-3, 9-0) will travel to Garrett County (Md.) Community College this weekend.

Ed Mocarsky scored a goal on an assist from Nick Christy, but it wasn't enough as the 14th-ranked Slippery Rock University men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, 3-1, at California (Pa.). Wednesday.The loss drops SRU to 6-1-1 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC. The Rock will host Shippensburg Saturday.

Emma Wright scored SRU's first goal and assisted on the final two as the sixth-ranked women's soccer team downed California (Pa.) 3-1 Wednesday.Sarah Mangiarelli and Sarah Arsenault each added a goal for The Rock (8-0-1, 4-0).SRU is ranked first in the Northeast Region in this week's poll.
