GFWC chooses president, plans dinner, magic show

The GFWC Intermediate League of Butler will begin the club year with a dinner meeting Monday at The Runway Restaurant. Following the dinner the members will enjoy a performance by magician Nick Kutch. Dinner reservations are available by contacting Phyllis Laporte, social chairman.

The president for the 2004-06 term is Anne Miller. She has chosen the theme "Journey Toward Your Dreams."

Other officers include first vice-president Bonnie Bachman, second vice-president

Jaye Young, recording secretary Jane Myers, corresponding secretary Pat Shively, treasurer Bev Scott and assistant treasurer Diana Crispin.

The GFWC PA State project, Habitat for Humanity, will be an emphasis area for the club. Club members will also participate in a wide range of community projects including a caregiver luncheon, volunteering in a life skills classroom, and providing a party for PARC clients.

She has been active in GFWC since 1983, serving as President of the GFWC Junior Women's Club of Butler in 1987-88, and President of the Butler County Federation of Woman's Club from 1990-92. She received the Junior Women of the Year Award in 1991. She is also a member of the GFWC Butler County Circle of Presidents.

The 1991 recipient of Butler's Junior Distinguished Service Award, she has been involved in many community organizations. A member of the Hill United Presbyterian Church, she is an elder and Sunday school teacher.

She is an active member and past president of the Butler Garden Club. She also serves as a docent at the Maridon Museum. She chaired many committees and served as secretary, treasurer, and vice-president of the McQuistion PTO.

She was a parent representative on two committees at Butler Senior High School, and twice served on the prom committee. She recently completed training to work as a volunteer at the Butler Library.

A graduate of Grove City College and the University of Pittsburgh, she taught science at the Ellis School in Pittsburgh, prior to moving to Butler in 1981. She and her husband, Dr. James Miller, have three children.
