Freeport full of concern about Kittanning

What concerns Freeport coach Bill Dillen the most about facing Kittanning on Friday?

"Everything," said Dillen. "They're well-coached, they're big, they come at you. Nothing fancy. They line up and take it to you."

The host Wildcats (3-0, 1-0) have outscored their opponents 106-32 this season, including a 41-18 triumph over Shady Side Academy Saturday.

The star of the game was Brad Bothell, who rushed for 198 yards and four touchdowns and five extra points.

"He's a nice-sized kid (5-foot-10, 190 pounds) and he runs hard," said Dillen.

Kittanning was dropped down to Class AA this year, going from the Greater Allegheny Conference to the Allegheny Conference.

They return 16 starters, eight on each side of the ball.

The Yellowjackets (2-1, 0-1) are coming off a tough 13-6 loss to Ford City, allowing an interception return and a punt return for scores.

The Yellowjackets jumped out to an early 6-0 lead on a Nate Kurtz touchdown run.

"Basically, I told the kids there are six games left and we still have a shot at what we want to do," said Dillen.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Summit Academy (0-3, 0-1) at Neshannock (1-2, 1-0), Friday, 7:30 p.m. -

The Knights look to rebound from last Saturday's 48-14 loss to Mohawk when they travel to Neshannock.

The Lancers are led by Matt Barge, who rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns in a 28-0 blanking over Shenango last Saturday.

Matt Dean added a 79-yard run and Joe Moses a 16-yard score to lead a balanced running attack.

The Knights received scoring runs by Ben Bland and Tyrell Knight.

A-C Valley at West Middlesex, Friday, 7 p.m. -

The Falcons are still searching for their first win after losses to Clarion-Limestone and Moniteau to open the season.

West Middlesex has been District 10's Class A representative in the PIAA playoffs the last two years, losing to Clarion-Limestone both times.

The Big Reds (1-1) are led by quarterback Colten Hoffman (199 yards passing and one touchdown) and running back Steve Andruski, who has rushed for 141 yards and a score.

Reynolds (2-0) at Grove City (0-2), 7 p.m. Friday

- It's an early must-win game for Grove City.

The Eagles struggled offensively against Greenville last week, but still had an opportunity to win the game in the fourth quarter, but could not.

Reynolds is flying high after a 19-6 win over Slippery Rock. In that game, the Raiders dominated the potent Rockets' offense, holding Slippery Rock to just 84 yards rushing.

Grove City will have to deal with the running threat of Jake McBride, who gained 99 yards for the second straight game for the Raiders.

The Eagles will rely on Jesse Alfreno, who was limited to 54 yards rushing on 11 carries, but did keep his reception streak alive at 22 straight games with a 28-yard catch.
