Warriors cruise past Falcons

CHERRY TWP. - The Garth Kohlmeyer Show just keeps picking up steam.

The junior quarterback threw for 124 yards and three touchdowns as Moniteau (2-0, 1-0) rumbled past A-C Valley (0-2, 0-2), 26-0, Friday night in high school football.

"We didn't throw as much today as we did last week because we were trying to establish the run," said Moniteau coach Steve Wilson.

On their first possession of the game, the Warriors put together a 13-play drive that covered 51 yards.

The drive was capped when Kohlmeyer rolled to his left and hit Eric Hilliard in the back of the end zone for a 4-yard scoring strike.

The Falcons turned the ball over on the very first play of their next possession when Greg Kepple intercepted a Luis Goncalves pass at the A-C Valley 34-yard line.

Moniteau scored five plays later after Kohlmeyer found a wide-open Brent Spahn for a 19-yard touchdown pass.

"We made mistakes. There were a couple of plays where the Moniteau kids were wide open. The same thing happened to us last week against C-L," said A-C Valley coach Randy Lemmon.

With 6:11 left in the second quarter, Moniteau scored again when Matt Schandelmeier blasted into the end zone from the 1-yard line.

The key play of the drive occurred when Hilliard caught a 33-yard pass that bounced off a Falcon defender.

"(Hilliard) has good focus and discipline and he really goes up after the ball," said Wilson.

Schandelmeier rushed for 64 yards on 13 carries.

Schandelmeier was more of a force on defensive, recording four sacks on the night.

"It doesn't matter how many guys you send out there, (Schandelmeier) just blows it up," said Wilson.

The Warriors scored again on their first possession of the second half after Kohlmeyer connected with Ryan Protzman for a 27-yard strike.

A key play on the drive was a 44-yard run by senior Josh Warburton that put the ball at the A-C Valley 20-yard line.

Warburton carried the ball three times for 51 yards, and the Warriors had 367 yards of total offense and 18 first downs.

The lone bright spot for the Falcons came midway through the fourth quarter, when Shawn Winger intercepted a pass from Adam Cousins at the Falcon 13-yard line and returned the ball to midfield.

A-C Valley had only 48 yards of total offense the entire game.

"We couldn't get our offense going today," said Lemmon. "But they never quit."

"We have to do something. Either it is my play-calling or the way we're preparing them, but we're just not able to move the ball," he said.

The Falcons now must go on the road to face West Middlesex, a playoff team from last year.

"I told the kids we play three good teams in a row. Stick together, we'll get better. There are teams in this league we can stick with," said Lemmon.
