The Washington & Jefferson junior varsity volleyball team defeated Butler County Community College in straight sets 30-27, 35-33, 31-29 Monday.

Katie Jewart had nine kills, Katherine Smith had seven kills and Sarah Morley had 28 assists for the Pioneers (0-1).

John Aubrey Sr. of Aubrey's Dubbs Dred is tied for sixth place after shooting an opening round 70 at the Tri-State Section PGA Senior Championship at St. Clair Country Club Monday.Aubrey is tied with Bob Meyer after both shot 35-35. Roy Vucinich leads with a 6-under par 66.Today's final round will be played at Valley Brook Country Club.

An area team representing the Great Lakes Region at the Keystone State Games placed third in the grades nine-and-10 division in Wilkes-Barre.Andrew Onufrak, Brian Warheit, Dallas O'Donnell and David Steighner of the Butler Area School District and Michael Eonta, Jacob Ellis, Shane Patsilevas, James Burry, Dan Jergel, Gabe Grinder, Matthew Brittner and Mark Haney of the Seneca Valley School District made up a large part of the team.The squad went 4-1, winning the bronze-medal game 6-5 in nine innings over Delaware Valley. It was the first medal in this division over the past eight years.O'Donnell was the winning pitcher in relief and drove home the game-winning run.O'Donnell won three games, allowed opponents a .111 batting average, had a 0.00 ERA and fanned 10 in 7innings. Warheit had an 0.72 ERA in 9innings.Haney batted .429, O'Donnell .364 with four RBI and Patsilevas .333 with five RBI and five runs scored. Steighner, who played at second base and shortstop, led a strong defensive effort.
