Alvin and Bertha Durnell of Slippery Rock celebrated 50 years of marriage recently with a picnic for family and friends at the home of their son in Slippery Rock.

The former Bertha Cornelius married Durnell on Aug. 27, 1954, at Plain Grove Presbyterian Church in Plain Grove.

They have two children, Karen Piper of Butler and Randall Durnell of Slippery Rock.

They also have seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Durnell is retired from the Department of Transportation.

Mrs. Durnell is a housewife.

The couple attends Wolf Creek Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock.
