Leah McDonald, daughter of Ralph McDonald and Bonnie Lenz of Butler, entered the Air Force's delayed entry program on Feb. 27 and shipped to basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, on Aug. 17.

Mcdonald is a 2001 graduate of Butler High School.

Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Justin Dunn, a 2000 graduate of Mars High School, along with other Marines and Sailors assigned to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, recently began the process of ensuring security and stability in the central Iraqi province of Northern Babil.

Operating from Forward Operating Base Kalsu, his unit's mission was to establish rapport with their neighbors and let them know they are prepared to help them in any way they can. The Forward Operating Base provides security against insurgents and anti-coalition militia for hundreds of Marines in Dunn's unit, which is an expeditionary intervention force.

Air Force 2nd Lt. Cory Wees, a wing weather officer, was involved in the funeral ceremonies honoring former President Ronald Reagan in Washington, D.C.

The lieutenant, assigned to the 4th Operations Support Squadron at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Goldsboro, N.C., provided air support for the Air Force fly-by during the funeral procession to the rotunda in the nation's capitol.

Her husband, Darren, is the son of Melvin Wees of Mars and Terry Vanek of Sewickley.

She is the daughter of Terry Rogers of New Freedom, Pa., and Mark Cordero of Silver Spring, Md.

The lieutenant is a 1998 graduate of Susquehannock High School, Glenn Rock, Pa., and a 2002 graduate of Pennsylvania State University.

During September, Edward Heeter, regional representative of the Governor's Veterans Outreach and Assistance Center, will have office hours from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at the Butler Armory, 250 Kriess Road, Room 113.Veterans needing assistance at times other than the scheduled hours can call the GVOAC at 800-442-6815 or 724-837-7988.---Veterans who served during World War II and have the Combat Infantry Badge or Combat Medic Badge are entitled to another decoration.Veterans who served in Korea after the Korean War are eligible for a new medal.For information on either of the above, contact the GVOAC at 800-442-6815 or 724-837-7988.
