WORTH TWP, Mercer County - The following cases were heard Aug. 11 by District Justice Lawrence Silvis:

Jodi A. Shaffer, 34, of Mercer was held for court on 14 counts of theft by deception and 14 counts of bad checks after purchases to BiLo between May 11 and 15. The checks were also written under the name of Jodi A. Jones. Shaffer was placed in the Mercer County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 bond.

Silvis heard the following cases Aug. 18:

Cynthia A. Barnes, 38, of 47 Amsterdam Road, Grove City, was held for court on two counts of simple assault, two counts of disorderly conduct and harassment after an incident July 25 at Center Presbyterian Church in Pine Township. Barnes allegedly attacked Virginia J. Riddle, 70, with a slip-on shoe during services. Riddle was taken to United Community Hospital for treatment after sustaining swelling to the back of the head and bruises to the right arm and hand. Barnes was released on her own recognizance with the stipulation she have no contact with the victim and she stay away from the church.

Joshua J. Lane, 22, of Omaha, Neb., pleaded guilty to use and possession of drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop Aug. 10 on Interstate 80 in Wolf Creek Township. Lane was sentenced to 8 days in jail, which he had completed before the hearing.

Liza M. Guyton, 23, of Mercer was waived to court on two counts of driving under the influence after a traffic stop May 15 on Route 62 in Jackson Township. Guyton was released on a $1,000 bond with the stipulation she refrain from using alcohol or from frequenting places where alcohol is served.

Susan L. Mathieson, 30, of Mercer pleaded guilty to summary charges of writing bad checks on April 15 to the Wal-Mart store in Pine Township. Mathieson was ordered to pay $247.40 in restitution and fees.

Varick W. Vanistendael, 28, of Slippery Rock was held for court on charges of burglary, criminal trespass, harassment, false imprisonment, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, intimidation of witnesses or victims and defiant trespass after an incident May 21 on South Center Street in Grove City. Alicia Bowers, who lives at the residence, said Vanistendael entered the residence by breaking the window in a locked door, then held her down for a period of time, refusing to leave. Vanistendael was released on a $25,000 bond.

Jessica L. Tribble, 25, of Slippery Rock was held for court on two counts of driving under the influence after a traffic stop June 13 on Route 208, Pine Township. Tribble was released on a $1,000 bond with the stipulation she refrain from using alcohol or from frequenting places where alcohol is served.

Belinda J. Keener, 22, of Carmichaels was waived to court on two counts of driving under the influence after a traffic stop June 12 on Route 173 in Pine Township. Keener was released on a $25,000 bond.

Frank Burk, 38, of Mercer pleaded guilty to two summary counts of disorderly conduct in connection with a domestic dispute July 4 that involved Darla Ivancic and Randall S. Phillips. The incident occurred on Route 258 in Liberty Township. Burk was ordered to pay $434.50 in restitution and fees.

Chris R. Wilson, 21, of Grove City was held for court on charges of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and intent to possess a controlled substance after an incident July 1 at the residence of Donald Huff, 225½ W. Main St. Huff's roommate, Russell Hamilton, told police that Wilson had taken pain patches valued at $266 from the residence. Wilson was released on a $10,000 bond with the stipulation he appear in court as directed, abstain from using alcohol or illegal drugs and be fingerprinted.

SLIPPERY ROCK - The following cases were heard Aug. 24 by District Justice Clifford J. Woessner:Erin E. Maser, 21, of Pittsburgh was held for court on charges of presenting false identification to a law officer and alcohol purchased by a minor after police responded to a fight May 28 outside Ginger Hill Tavern on Main Street in Slippery Rock. Maser was released on her own recognizance. Her arraignment is set for Oct. 4 at the Butler County Courthouse.Angela L. Swabik, 28, of New Castle was waived to court on charges of open lewdness, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and violation of rules on Commonwealth property after an incident July 20 at Lakeview Beach in Moraine State Park. Linda Grossang and Lisa Johnson, who were present at the park with seven children, told park rangers that Swabik removed her bathing suit and began grabbing herselfafter the women asked Swabik to cover herself. Swabik was found nude and asleep in the park a short time later. When she was roused, the park ranger said Swabik shouted profanities throughout the remainder of the incident, disturbing a number of park visitors. Swabik was released on her own recognizance. Her arraignment is set for Oct. 4 at the Butler County Courthouse.Justin G. Conner, 21, of Bessemer was waived to court on two counts of driving under the influence, disregarding a traffic lane, failure to stop at a stop sign and exceeding the speed limit after a traffic stop July 25 on Unionville Road, Franklin Township. Conner was released on his own recognizance. His arraignment is set for Oct. 4 at the Butler County Courthouse.Krystal Matich, 20, of Aliquippa was waived to court on three counts of driving under the influence, alcohol purchased by a minor and a minor prohibited from operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated after police responded to a report that Matich's car had smashed into a utility pole July 23 on Kiester Road in Slippery Rock. Matich was released on her own recognizance. Her arraignment is set for Oct. 4 at the Butler County Courthouse.Terri L. Ransom, 46, of New Castle was waived to court on charges of driving under the influence, following too closely and careless driving after a traffic stop July 3 on Route 422 in Muddy Creek Township. Ransom was released on her own recognizance. Her arraignment is set for Oct. 4 at the Butler County Courthouse.Christopher C. Capizzi, 54, of Pittsburgh was waived to court on two counts of driving under the influence after being stopped at a scheduled traffic checkpoint July 25 on Route 422 in Franklin Township. Capizzi was released on his own recognizance. His arraignment is set for Oct. 4 at the Butler County Courthouse.Marlo Browne, 36, of Slippery Rock was waived to court on charges of criminal trespass, use or possession of drug paraphernalia and intent to possess a controlled substance by a person not registered after a trespassing incident was reported Aug. 17 at Natili's greenhouse on Route 8 in Brady Township. While investigating an unrelated crime, police were told by Nancy Natili, who owns the building, that Browne had entered an upstairs apartment by climbing a storage pallet, walking across a metal roof and entering through an unlocked window. Browne allegedly told Natili she had entered the apartment on Aug. 16 and left on Aug. 17, when police found her walking south on Route 173. Officers then found two syringes of alleged heroin, a plastic bag of alleged Valium tablets and various paraphernalia items in the apartment. Browne was released on her own recognizance with the stipulation she have no contact with the victim and report to pretrial supervision upon release from jail. Brown's arraignment is set for Oct. 4 in the Mercer County Courthouse.Debra L. Butler, 46, of Prospect pleaded guilty to use/possession of drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop June 26 on Route 422, Muddy Creek Township. Butler was ordered to pay $338 in fines and other costs.
