Andre 60th anniversary
Leroy and Jeannette Andre of Chicora will celebrate 60 years of marriage with a family gathering later this month.
The former Jeannette Bouch married Andre on Aug. 5, 1944 at Second Presbyterian Church in Butler. The Rev. George Miller officiated.
They have two children, Larilyn Andre of Centerville, Va., and Thomas Andre of Penn Hills
They also have six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
A veteran of World War II, Andre retired from the Butler Eagle after working in the composing room for 43 years. He later worked as a freelance reporter and photographer for the Leader Times in Kittanning, the Leader Vindicator in New Bethlehem and the Progress News in Emlenton, retiring in May. Andre also worked providing videos of fires, accidents and other news to Pittsburgh television stations. He is a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the American Legion, the Chicora Volunteer Fire Department and the Argyle Lodge F&AM.
Mrs. Andre was formerly employed at the office of the Justice of the Peace in Kittanning, the Henry Shaffer Lumber Company and for 25 years as a correspondent for the Butler Eagle. She retired last year after working as a notary public. She has been a member of many craft clubs, the Chicora Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Chicora Rebekah Lodge.
The couple also owned a dry cleaning business in Chicora for more than 14 years and served on the committee that sponsors the 101st Calvary Pennsylvania Reunions in Butler and Kittanning.
The couple attends St. John's Reformed Church in Chicora, where Mrs. Andre has held several offices, including president of the Ladies Aid Society. Mr. Andre is also active in the church, serving as a Sunday school superintendent, deacon and elder.
