ERIE - Michelle Wie squandered a late lead, losing the last three holes and her second-round match to In-Bee Park at the U.S. Women's Amateur.
Wie led 2-up heading to the 16th hole at The Kahkwa Club, but was eliminated in the early round of the championship for the second straight year. The 14-year-old from Hawaii lost in the first round in 2003.
All square going to the par-4 18th, Wie hit her second shot within 15 feet. Park's second shot landed about 60 feet from the hole.
ATHENS, Greece - South Korean archers broke three world records in men's and women's events in the ranking rounds of the Olympic competition.Park Sung-hyun set a record of 682 points in the 72-arrow women's competition, breaking the mark of 679 set in May by Italian Natalia Valeeva.The team of Park, Lee Sung-jin and Yun Mi-jin also set a record of 2,030 for the 216-arrow event. Yun also was a member of the team that set the previous mark of 1,994 at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.Lee was second in the 72-arrow competition with 675, and Yun was third with 673.In the men's competition, Im Dong-hyun set a 72-arrow record with a score of 687, breaking the mark of 685 set by countryman Shim Young-sung in 1995.

DENVER - Prosecutors and the woman accusing Kobe Bryant of rape are asking the judge to ease a gag order so they can respond to widely publicized evidence they say is favorable to the NBA star.The woman's attorneys, John Clune and Lin Wood, said in a court filing that the gag order prohibits them from responding to claims made by a defense witness who has distributed derogatory information about their client on the Internet.Bryant has pleaded not guilty to felony sexual assault. He has said he had consensual sex with the employee of the Vail-area resort where he stayed last summer. The trial begins Aug. 27, with the last pretrial hearing scheduled Monday.
ATLANTA - Jamal Lewis' drug conspiracy trial is scheduled to begin on Nov. 1, the middle of the NFL season.The date, set by a federal court, comes between the eighth and ninth weeks of the season, meaning that if the trial goes on as scheduled, Lewis could miss a number of games. The Ravens are at Philadelphia on Oct. 31, then play host to Cleveland in a night game the following Sunday.Lewis does not expect to miss any games.Lewis and Angelo Jackson, a childhood friend, are charged with conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine and using a cell phone in violation of federal law. Jackson is additionally charged with attempted cocaine possession.
CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Indians released Alex Escobar, making the often-injured outfielder a free agent.Escobar was a key component of the December 2001 trade that sent Roberto Alomar to the New York Mets. But Escobar, at one time considered a five-tool player, was injured in two of his three seasons in the Indians organization.
DETROIT - Joe Falls, a longtime sports writer for The Detroit News and a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame, has died. He was 76.Falls died of heart failure Wednesday after his diabetes steadily worsened over two years.Falls began his journalism career in 1945, when he went to work as a copy boy in the New York office of The Associated Press. He transferred to the Detroit bureau in 1953 and joined the Detroit Times in 1956.
