Red Sox fell blue once again
Believe it or not, the Boston Red Sox found another agonizing way to lose in extra innings.
Relief ace Keith Foulke squandered a one-run lead in the 10th inning Friday night, and the Atlanta Braves beat the visiting Red Sox 6-3 in the 12th on Nick Green's three-run homer.
Just one night before, the reeling Red Sox couldn't hold a 4-3 lead in the 13th inning of an epic 5-4 loss at Yankee Stadium.
"It doesn't matter how you lose or how long it takes you to lose, but it's frustrating," Johnny Damon said.
Green hit a tying sacrifice fly off Foulke in the 10th, then homered against Anastacio Martinez (2-1) in the 12th.
Boston, which trails New York by 81/2 games in the AL East, has dropped four straight and nine of 12 to fall to 27-30 since April.
"I'll feel sorry for them when they leave here," Atlanta manager Bobby Cox said.
In other interleague games, it was: San Francisco 7, Oakland 3; Chicago Cubs 6, White Sox 2; Anaheim 7, Los Angeles 3; Montreal 2, Toronto 0; Baltimore 7, Philadelphia 6 in 16 innings; New York Mets 11, Yankees 2; Cleveland 15, Cincinnati 2; Tampa Bay 4, Florida 2; Houston 7, Texas 5; Colorado 9, Detroit 8 in 10 innings; St. Louis 11, Seattle 2; and San Diego 7, Kansas City 5. Arizona fired manager Bob Brenly, then lost 6-5 to Minnesota.
In the National League, Pittsburgh swept a doubleheader from Milwaukee, 8-1 and 13-2.
Chipper Jones and J.D. Drew homered to help the Braves win for the seventh time in nine games.
David Ortiz connected for the Red Sox, who got AL batting champion Bill Mueller back from the disabled list but placed reliever Scott Williamson on the 15-day DL.
Nomar Garciaparra, who didn't play Thursday because of his ailing right foot, was back in the lineup and went 3-for-5. But he also grounded into an inning-ending double play in the 10th after Manny Ramirez put Boston ahead 3-2 with an RBI single.
Foulke allowed a leadoff double to Rafael Furcal in the 10th, but he said the more crucial mistake was throwing a wild pitch that set up Green's sacrifice fly.
"That's the way it's going right now," Red Sox manager Terry Francona said. "There are always tests, and we're definitely going through one of those now."
Ramirez struck out four times, ending the top of the 12th by fanning against Juan Cruz (2-0) with two on. Boston fell to 3-5 in extra-inning games.

At Anaheim, Calif., Aaron Sele (5-0) pitched seven solid innings, allowing just a solo homer by Alex Cora and a two-run shot by Paul Lo Duca.
Dodgers center fielder Milton Bradley was ejected after getting called out on strikes for the second time - and flinging his bat away in disgust for the second time.
Cubs 6, White Sox 2
At Chicago, Carlos Zambrano benefited when umpires reversed a call at Wrigley Field.
Zambrano (9-3) allowed a two-run double in the first to Ross Gload. One pitch earlier, he nearly had a grand slam when his drive to right was initially ruled fair, then overturned.
Mark Grudzielanek singled and Corey Patterson doubled in the third off Esteban Loaiza (8-4) before Sammy Sosa hit a go-ahead, two-run single.
Indians 15, Reds 2
At Cincinnati, Ronnie Belliard hit the first of Cleveland's four homers, clearing the way for Japanese college star Kazuhito Tadano to win his first start for the Indians.
Tadano (1-0), shunned by Japanese pro teams aware that he had appeared in a gay porn video, got his first keepsake moment in the majors, striking out a career-high 10 in seven innings.
Devil Rays 4, Marlins 2
At Miami, Aubrey Huff hit his 11th homer and drove in three runs. Huff's two-out, two-run shot off Carl Pavano (9-3) broke a 2-all tie. Mike Lowell hit his 19th homer for Florida, which has lost 10 of 14.
Astros 7, Rangers 5
At Houston, Morgan Ensberg hit a two-run homer in the eighth, his first of the season.
Carlos Beltran had an RBI in his home debut for the Astros, and Roy Oswalt (7-6) earned his 50th win. Lance Berkman singled in a run and snatched away Alfonso Soriano's bid for a homer with a leaping catch.
Rockies 9, Tigers 8, 10 innings
