Mabel (Shakely) Lewis of Chicora celebrated her 90th birthday May 23 with a gathering of family and friends at her home.

She was born May 13, 1914, in Millers Eddy, Armstrong County. She was married to Richard "Dick" Lewis, who died Nov. 10, 1977.

She is the mother of Richard Lewis of Chicora and Rhonda Lewis of Butler.

She also has three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Lewis worked for Lee's Drug Store in Petrolia before she married. After her wedding, she worked as a bookkeeper for Lewis Dairy in Kaylor and later for attorney H.E. Coulter in Butler.

She is a 65-year member of the Petrolia Presbyterian Church, where she has served as organist and pianist, Sunday school teacher and deacon. She has also served as president of the Women's Association and the Willing Workers.
