Roy K. Fowler

Roy K. Fowler, 90, of Slippery Rock died Sunday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 29, 1914, in Richmond, Va., he was the son of Wilmer Fowler and Mary Cunningham Fowler.

Mr. Fowler worked at G.C. Murphy for 47 years. He started as a stock boy and worked his way up to district manager of 17 stores in the Indianapolis, Ind. area.

He was a Presbyterian. He was an avid fisherman and golfer in the Michigan and Florida areas. He was a member of Victory Lodge 694 F&AM, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of New Castle, Syria Temple of Pittsburgh, Butler Cubs Association and the United Commercial Travelers of America Butler Council 465. He was a life member of the Butler Lions Club and Moose and Elks lodges. He also was a life member of the Butler City Hunting and Fishing Club and was president when the club bought the land for its current location and established the club in East Butler.

Surviving are three sons and their wives, Roy K. and Theresa Fowler Jr. of Pittsburgh, William R. and Linda Fowler of Charleston, W.V.a, and Robert L. and Jean Fowler of Butler; and two daughters, Mrs. James (Joanne) Glasgow of Butler and Judy Jones of Slippery Rock; and three sisters, Margaret Schramm of Columbus, Ohio, Alma Mucy of Belle Vernon, Fayette County, and Leatrice Downer of Port Saint Lucie, Fla.

Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, Donald Glasgow, Sharon Perschke, Joy Bernhard, Pamela Drovillard, Kathy Scarpaci, Roy K. Fowler III, Jeffrey Fowler, Dr. Ryan Fowler, Christene Cameron, Dr. Todd Fowler, Randy Fowler, Kim Fowler, Michelle Jones, and Danny Jones; and 15 great-grandchildren, Claire and Dana Drovillard, Matthew Wright, Michael Scarpaci, Wyatt, Eliza and Hannah and Jack Fowler, Phil, Corey and Dawn Glasgow, Gretchen and Kyle Perschke and Kamryn and Mikayla Bernhard.

His wife of 62 years, F. Elizabeth Fowler, died Aug. 10, 1996. Three brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death.

FOWLER - Friends of Roy K. Fowler, who died Sunday, May 23, 2004, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. J. David Panther, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating.Members of Victory Lodge 694 F&AM will hold a Masonic service at 6:45 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001.Information also is available at www.thompson-miller.com.
