No-hitter puts Mars in playoffs
It was a big day for the Mars softball team.
Freshman Monica Glomb pitched a no-hitter and the Planets sewed up a playoff spot with a 7-1 win over Riverside Thursday.
It was Glomb's second no-hitter of the year as she struck out 10 and walked three, and also scored three runs.
Kara Stroup doubled twice, singled, scored two runs and drove in two for the Planets.
Mars (8-7, 6-1) can clinch a share of the section title with a win over Knoch Monday.

Joe Arndt doubled, singled twice and drove in five runs as Knoch outslugged Hampton 15-10.John LeFebre got the win, going the distance and striking out five. Julie Quail scored four goals and Mandy Hajduk added three more aa Seneca Valley pounded North Hills 13-2 Thursday.The Raiders (9-2-1) also got goals from Michelle Quail, Pam Marlowe, Dana Maxson, Sammi Kalnas, Kylie Gallagher and Ashley Herbick, who scored her first career goal.
Butler 18, Vincentian Academy 7 -Josh Veith scored six goals and B.J. Tipton added five for the Golden Tornado (5-7, 4-2). Ben Cleary scored three goals, Zach Reiser two, Adam Bresnehan and Matt McCarrier one each.George Stutz had six saves in goal for Butler and Dan McPherson had three.
Montour 3, Butler 2 -Chris Erdos had 19 points, but the Spartans pulled out a 21-25, 15-25, 25-9, 25-11, 18-16 come-from-behind victory.Ricky Gonzalez had 14 kills and 13 passes, Chris Falbo five blocks and Ryan Walker 15 assists for the Tornado (4-8, 3-6).The junior varsity team split its two matches.Butler will travel to OLSH on Tuesday.
