Bernard W. 'Shorty' Took

Bernard W. "Shorty" Took, 80, of Evans City died Monday.

Born June 21, 1923, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Thomas and Anna Napiecek Tokarski.

A World War II Army veteran, he served in the Pacific theater with the 129th Field Artillery. He received three Bronze Stars for service in the Pacific and a Bronze Star for service during the Philippine Liberation. He was a member of the VFW Post 499 and the American Legion Post 219, both of Evans City.

He also was a member of St. Matthias Roman Catholic Church in Evans City.

Mr. Took retired from Armco-Butler Works in 1988 and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and gardening. He also was an animal lover and enjoyed his numerous pets.

He is survived by two daughters, Catherine C. Pakutz and her husband, Wallace, of Renfrew and Erin L. Walker and her husband, Larry E., of Renfrew; two sons, Jay R. Took of Evans City and Ronald W. Took and his wife, Sally Jo, of Evans City; and a sister, Pauline Howryla of Bakerstown. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and a great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice A. Oson; and three brothers, Edward, Stanley and Charles "Chick."

TOOK - Friends of Bernard W. "Shorty" Took, who died Monday, May 3, 2004, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday atBOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 116 E. Main St., Evans City. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Matthias Roman Catholic Church, 417 E. Main St., Evans City. The Rev. William Ritzert will officiate.
