Tornado earn 1-0 softball win over Mars
Amy Ferrari's single in the bottom of the fourth inning drove home Kara Deal for the only run of the game as Butler squeaked past Mars, 1-0, in high school softball Tuesday.
Megan Marra pitched a three-hitter for the Golden Tornado (4-5), striking out five and walking none.
Ashley DeSano, who singled for Mars (3-5), got the loss in relief, striking out two in two innings.
In other action:
Stephanie Leslie pitched a two-hitter and Casey Hill had two singles and an RBI to lead Freeport to a 3-0 victory over Knoch.
Natalie DeMatteis homered, doubled and drove in two runs, and Melissa Casper added a double, single and three RBI to key Moniteau's 11-5 victory over DuBois Central Catholic.
Tara Walmsley singled, doubled and drove in two runs, and Katie Sonntag limited Slippery Rock to just one hit in five innings as Grove City downed the Rockets 9-1.
Lindsey Thomas had two hits for Slippery Rock (3-4).
Kari Barnes and Ali Gamola each drove in two runs for Grove City (5-1, 4-0).
