Gremlins crush Knights

David Black and Josh Smith both hit home runs to power the Karns City baseball team to a 10-0, five inning blanking of Union in Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference play Monday afternoon.

Tyler Callihan picked up the win, striking out 10 and not walking a batter while giving up just two hits. David Slagle added two doubles for the Gremlins (6-0, 5-0).

Butler's Ike Backstrom made it to the quarterfinals of the WPIAL Class AAA tennis championships before bowing to Latrobe's Tyler Weisel 10-4.Backstrom advanced past the first round of competition by defeating Canon-McMillan's Chris Podani 10-1.Seneca Valley's Andy Zipf lost in the first round to Upper St. Clair's Evan Reese 10-4.
