Vogel paces BC3 win
April Vogel smacked a grand slam, drove home seven runs and was the winning pitcher to lead the Butler County Community College softball team to a 17-4, five-inning victory over Pitt-Titusville Thursday.
In the second game, Vogel added a double, single and had five more RBI in a 13-4, five-inning win.
Vogel struck out six, walked none and allowed just five hits. She also had a triple and double.
Stephanie Burgard also homered, singled and had four RBI, and Jodie Irwin and Kayla Thompson had two hits each.
In the fourth inning, BC3 scored nine runs, with each player crossing the plate once.
In the second game, Laine Beckwith and Stacy Tiche had two singles and two RBI each, Thompson two hits and three RBI and Sarah Callender picked up the win on the mound.
The Pioneers (3-3) will play at Community College of Beaver County Tuesday.
Slippery Rock University won the first two doubles matches and the top four singles matches en route to a 6-3 triumph over California (Pa.) Thursday.The No. 1 doubles team of Jessica Bungo and Ashley Michaux won 8-4 over Olga Gonzalez and Linda Escobedo. The No. 2 team of Kelly Anderson and Ashley Greene (Seneca Valley) won 8-2 over Daniella Zevallos and Gina Pelehac.In singles play, Bungo won the No. 1 match 6-1, 6-0 over Gonzalez; Michaux 6-2, 6-1 over Escobedo; Greene 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 over Brown and Anderson 6-1, 6-0 over Zevallos.The Rock will play at Indiana (Pa.) Sunday.
