Butler's Backstorm falls in section singles

Butler's Ike Backstrom dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision to North Allegheny's Mike Combotto in the WPIAL Section 2 Tennis Singles Championships at Lakevue Athletic Club Wednesday.

Backstrom will still advance to the WPIAL Championships Monday by finishing in the top three.

He will be joined by Seneca Valley's Andy Zipf, who defeated Butler's Brad Straub 6-3, 6-0 in the consolation final to take the third spot.

The site for the WPIAL Championships has not been determined.
