SCOREBOARD

Monday, March 22

Edmonton at Los Angeles (10:30 p.m. EST). The Oilers and Kings are both trying to overtake St. Louis for the final Western Conference playoff spot.

STARS

Sunday

Nikolai Zherdev, Blue Jackets, scored two third-period goals and had two assists as Columbus rallied to edge Vancouver 5-4.

Sergei Fedorov, Ducks, had two goals and an assist against his former team in Anaheim's 8-6 defeat of Detroit.

Aleksey Morozov, Penguins, scored a power-play goal in overtime, and added two assists as Pittsburgh beat New York 4-3.

Marc-Andre Bergeron, Oilers, scored two goals to lead Edmonton to a 5-2 win over San Jose.

SHUTOUT

Rick DiPietro made 28 saves for his fourth shutout of the season, lifting the New York Islanders to a 3-0 victory over Eastern Conference-leading Tampa Bay on Sunday. The win stretched New York's lead for eighth place in the conference to six points over idle Buffalo.

STALEMATE

Despite 39 saves by Chicago goalie Michael Leighton, Phoenix rallied from a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 tie with the Blackhawks on Sunday. The deadlock gave the Coyotes an 0-7-3-3 record since they replaced coach Bob Francis with Rick Bowness on Feb. 24.

SAVES

In Anaheim's 8-6 win over Detroit on Sunday night, Mighty Ducks goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere faced a franchise-record 57 shots and tied a team record with 51 saves for a regular season game. Giguere matched Mikhail Shtalenkov, who stopped 51 of 53 shots on March 22, 1998 at Ottawa.

SUSPENDED

Calgary coach-general manager Darryl Sutter and forward Krzysztof Oliwa were suspended by the NHL Sunday. Sutter got two games and Oliwa three for their actions at the end of Saturday night's 3-1 loss to Nashville. Sutter was suspended for player selection and team conduct in the final 2.5 seconds of the game. Oliwa was suspended for his conduct after being assessed a penalty for physical abuse of officials. After a Nashville empty-net goal, Sutter sent in Oliwa, who tried to fight with several Predators. At one point, a linesman had to stand between Oliwa and an opponent so the puck could be dropped to conclude the game.

SPEAKING

"That's an old, wily veteran taking a young guy to task. That's the way it is. It's unfortunate because we had to shorten down to three centers." - New York Rangers coach Tom Renney on captain Mark Messier, who was ejected in the second period of Sunday's 4-3 loss to Pittsburgh after being assessed a match penalty for spearing Martin Strbak.
