Capt. Brett McFadden, M.D., son of Frank and Carol McFadden of Middlesex Township, recently received the Air Force Commendation Medal for outstanding achievement as internal medicine and primary care physician, Air Force Expeditionary Medical Support Hospital, on special assignment to Joint Special Operations Task Force North, Irbil, Iraq and 376th Expeditionary Medical Group, 376th Air Expeditionary Wing, Kyrgyz Republic, from March 21 to July 23, 2003.A 1985 graduate of Mars High School, McFadden graduatedsumma cum laude fromthe University of Pittsburgh in 1993 and received a bachelor's degree in natural sciences. He received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1999.He also has graduated from several military training courses and has received the Air Force Achievement Medal.He currently is chief of internal medicine element/clinic and medical director of internal medicine at Sheppard Air Force Base and a staff internist and hospitalist at United Regional Health System, both in Wichita Falls, Texas.McFadden recently received a promotion to major, which will be effective in about one year.---

Army Spec. James Genaway has graduated from Army Ranger School at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga., with authorization to wear the distinctive Ranger Tab.Genaway is a scout with the 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, Fayetteville, N.C., and has two years of military service.He is the son of Phyllis and Thomas Genaway of Prospect.---

Richard Jankowski, son of Richard Jankowski and Donna Ryan from Ford Cliff, entered the delayed entry program for the Air Force on Oct. 29, 2003.Jankowski, a 2001 graduate of Ford City High School, left for basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, on March 9.---

Navy Seaman Ryan Dougherty, son of Janice and Richard Dougherty of Valencia, recently completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.Dougherty is a 2003 graduate of Mars High School.---

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Brian Reese, a 2000 graduate of Allegheny Clarion Valley High School, Foxburg, recently departed on a routine scheduled deployment while assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp, homeported in Norfolk, Va.---

Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Ryan Koegler has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.Koegler is the son of Beth and Roy Koegler of Saxonburg.He is a 2003 graduate of Knoch High School.
