Richard Thompson

Richard “Dick” N. Thompson, 83, of Grove City, passed away in his home on Friday, Sept. 10, 2021.

He was born in Pulaski, Pa., and was the son of Mayson E. Thompson and Dorothy E. (McCreary) Thompson (Arblaster).

Dick graduated from East Lawrence High School in 1955. He then went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy.He married Katherine “Kate” P. Collar in 1960. They were happily married for 58 years, before Kate passed away on April 12, 2019.He is survived by his two children, Judith Kort (Michael) of Evans City, and David Thompson (Amy) of Welcome, Md.; four granddaughters, Jessica Kort, Rebecca McElravy (Patrick), Kiersten Kitson (Ray) and Courtney Thompson; and four great-grandchildren, Kyler, Lorelai, Jaxon and Lucas.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his brother, John.He was involved in the transportation industry. He drove tour buses throughout the United States and parts of Eastern Canada. He drove a tractor-trailer for Tajon Inc., and then Interstate Chemical, from which he retired in 2002. Not to stay idle long, he returned to work as a security guard at Grove City Medical Center, and eventually was a switchboard operator.He loved the Lord, and his family and friends. He was a devoted Christian, and was an active member of Wayside Community Church.He was an avid reader, and enjoyed caring for his home. He would often be seen out walking about Grove City, gardening and keeping his yard meticulously cut. He enjoyed tinkering with his tools, painting, and working on the home that he shared with his family for many years.He will be greatly missed by family and friends. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is now with his Lord and Savior, and his sweetheart, Kate, whom he has been missing since her passing.Thompson — A celebration of life service for Richard “Dick” N. Thompson, who died Friday, Sept. 10, 2021, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021, at Wayside Community Church, 1911 Mercer-Grove City Road, Mercer, with Pastor Lester Rowan officiating.Arrangements are under the direction of Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation in his name be made to the Wayside Community Church, 1911 Mercer-Grove City Road, Mercer, PA 16137, or the Paralyzed Veteran's Association at www.pva.org.
