Rt. 422 crash
CLEARFIELD TWP — A two-vehicle accident sent all involved to the hospital Tuesday afternoon on Route 422.
A Toyota SUV and a Subaru sedan crashed around 4 p.m. about 100 yards east of Swartzlander Lane.
According to state police, the male driver of the sedan and two people, a female driver and a juvenile passenger, in the SUV were taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
Emergency personnel believed the patients were taken to ACMH Hospital in Kittanning. According to East Butler Fire Chief Derek Thompson, his team used equipment to extract the driver from the SUV.
“There was some entanglement,” Thompson said. “We did have to remove the door.”
The status and conditions of those taken to the hospital were not immediately available at the scene Tuesday.
Both eastbound lanes of Route 422 were closed while emergency crews worked on the scene. Westbound travel was restricted to one lane for emergency vehicles to get to the scene.
The tow trucks arrived around 5:15 p.m. Firefighters reopened the road around 5:25 p.m.
Firefighters from Herman as well as from Worthington, Armstrong County, assisted with blocking and redirecting traffic. East Butler and Kittanning ambulance services provided medical transport.
A crash investigation by state police was still ongoing Tuesday night.
