SRU basketball earns road sweep

ERIE — Brooke Hinderliter scored 30 points and Karns City graduate LeeAnn Gibson recorded a double-double to lead the Slippery Rock University women’s basketball team to a 69-64 win at Mercyhurst Wednesday night.

The Rock (5-13, 3-9) pulled with two games of Pitt-Johnstown for the sixth and final playoff spot in the PSAC West standings.

Hinderliter had six rebounds to go with her 30 points. Gibson, who ranks fourth in the PSAC in rebounds, had 11 points and 10 rebounds befor fouling out after playing 25 minutes.

Gibson has had three double-doubles in her last four games.

Daeja Quick had 14 points and five rebounds for SRU. Mercyhurst slipped to 4-14, 4-8 with the loss.

SRU (men) 62, Mercyhirst 52 — The Rock (9-9, 5-7) jumped out to an 18-0 lead and never trailed in posting this road win over one of the top three PSAC West teams.

Will Robinson Jr. paced SRU with 21 points and seven rebounds. Micah Till added 15 points and nine boards with Amante Britt getting 10 points and three steals.

Miykah McIntosh led Mercyhurst (10-6, 8-4) with 17 points.

Both Rock teams return home Saturday to host Edinboro at Morrow Field House. The women’s game is at 1 p.m., the men’s game at 3 p.m.
