Congregation B'nai Abraham, 519 N. Main St., will have its annual picnic beginning at 3 p.m. Sept. 8 at the home of Julie and Marty Meyer, 185 Forester Road, Slippery Rock. Take a favorite dish to share and RSVP to Julie and Marty at vpsdocs@zoominternet.net.

Because of the Butler Italian Fest, the Friday Shabbat service is canceled.

Butler Church of the Nazarene, 4410 Oakdale Road and Route 68, has Millie Martsolf providing the special music Sunday.

Faith United Presbyterian Church, 1329 N. Main Ext., hosts the AA group at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.WW will meet at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday at 10 a.m. Aug. 29 and at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 31.

The Ladies Outreach of First Baptist Church, 221 W. New Castle St., meets at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.The Sunday schedule includes 9:45 a.m. Sunday school and an 11 a.m. worship service. There will also be a 6 p.m. worship service.

First English Lutheran Church, 241 N. Main St., will have a Blessing of the Backpacks at the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service. Students of all ages are invited to bring their backpacks, book bags or other gear for a blessing.

Grace @ Calvary Lutheran Church, 123 E. Diamond St., opens Grace's Closet, a free clothing bank from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. No proof of income is required. Each family may fill one large bag.Holy Communion will be celebrated at the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service.

GraceWay meets each Sunday for a 10 a.m. worship service at the Center Township Elementary School on Mercer Road.Amber Crowe provides the music at Sunday's worship service.

Hill United Presbyterian Church, 501 Second St., will host Butler Presbyterian churches for Worship Without Walls at 10:30 a.m. Sunday in the Masonic Shelter at Alameda Park, 182 Alameda Park Road. The churches will share in the worship and music presented. A blessing of the backpacks for students returning to school will also be part of the service. A supervised area with activities will be available for children.A church picnic will follow with hot dogs, drinks and desserts provided. Hill members should bring a salad or side dish to serve 10. No refrigeration is available.After the picnic, participants of all ages are invited to participate in the Highland Games. The wearing of kilts is encouraged.The vocal choir resumes practice at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Mars United Presbyterian Church, 232 Crowe Ave., Mars, has an infant baptism at the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service.The A-team will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the office to perform light maintenance at the church.The Material Girls will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday to continue their sewing efforts for the community.

Meridian Presbyterian Church, 4150 Highland Ave., holds its annual church picnic Sunday immediately after the 10 a.m. worship service. There will be yard games and other things to do, as well as lots of food and fellowship. Weather permitting, the picnic will be outdoors; indoors if there is inclement weather.

Old Union Presbyterian Church, 200 Union Church Road, Mars, will continue to collect shoes and other footware for its chosen mission project until the end of August.Drop shopping bags off in the lobby, so the Lighthouse can use them for its food distribution.

Orchard Hill Butler County, 107 Staley Ave., will have a family fest after the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service with a live band, food trucks and family games for all.

Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Jefferson St., relocates its 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service with other local Presbyterian churches to Alameda Park, 184 Alameda Park Road, for “Worship without Walls” at the Masonic Shelter, followed by a giant church picnic. Take a salad or side dish large enough to feed ten people.Bible study is at 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the Memorial Room.

St. John's United Church of Christ, 501 E. Main St., Evans City, has Sunday's 10 a.m. worship service at EDCO Park in Evans City in cooperation with Westminster Presbyterian Church. A picnic, swimming and games will follow.Volunteers for Produce to People will meet at the church at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday.The Praise Team will practice at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 310 W. Main St., Saxonburg, will celebrate Holy Communion at 8:15 a.m. Sunday worship service in the sanctuary and at the 10 a.m. outdoor worship service on the Hattie Cooper Room patio. Students are asked to bring their backpacks to both services. A special blessing will be given for everyone involved in the education of children from preschool through college. New drivers will also receive a blessing and be asked to take the pledge for safe driving.The nursery is available for the 8:15 a.m. Sunday service.As a part of the Saxonburg Festival of the Arts, the annual Quilt Show will be Sept. 7 and 8 in Centennial Hall.

Trinity Lutheran Church, 120 Sunset Drive, Center Township, has a blessing of the backpacks at the 5:30 p.m. service Saturday and 10 a.m. service Sunday.Health and Wellness meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.Vocals for contemporary worship meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
