Emergency responders can apply for state grants for training and equipment from the Act 13 Unconventional Gas Well Fund Grant Program.

State Fire Commissioner Bruce Trego said the application period opens is now open. Fire companies, rescue companies and emergency medical services in the 40 counties where permitted unconventional gas well drilling takes place and counties that directly border the permitted counties are eligible to apply for the grants.

Eligible projects include training, professional certification or the acquisition of specialized equipment for emergency responses to unconventional gas wells.

The online application period closes at 4 p.m. July 24.
