Butler soccer player Blose picks B-W lacrosse as college sport

BUTLER TWP — Adam Blose is breaking the family mold.

His brother played club soccer at Penn State. His father played soccer at Robert Morris. He played soccer himself at Butler and was an all-section player.

But he recently signed a letter of intent to play lacrosse for Baldwin Wallace University.

“I guess I have to venture out my own way,” the Butler senior said, laughing.

Blose certainly could have opted for college soccer. He played all four years with the Golden Tornado and made All-WPIAL in the sport.

He even admits his years of soccer helped prepare him for lacrosse.

“There are some similarities,” he said. “Lacrosse is the sport I want to pursue in college. I received some good (collegiate) opportunities and I'm going to a winning program.”

Blose also considered Grove City and Saint Vincent befored opting to join the Yellow Jackets. Baldwin Wallace has been dominant in the Ohio Athletic Conference, winning 23 of its 29 conference games over the last four seasons.

The team is 49-14 overall during that time. Third-year head coach Trey Keeley is 23-8 overall, 13-3 in OAC play during his first two seasons.

Mars graduate Will Scurci is a freshman goalkeeper on the Yellow Jacket roster this spring.

“My goal is to be part of OAC championship teams and to do well on the national stage in the NCAA Tournament,” Blose said.

Blose has played long-stick midfield for the Golden Tornado the past two seasons. He played defense during his first year.

“All I had was a short stick back then, so I had to play defense,” he said. “I went out and bought a long stick after that first year and I've been at midfield ever since.”

Butler assistant lacrosse coach Cody Bachman said Blose will fit in well at Baldwin Wallace.

“They will love his work ethic,” Bachman said. “Adam is a tremendous defensive player and he's a great leader on the field.

“Leadership is probably his No. 1 quality.”

Blose played summer lacrosse for the Apex program in Pittsburgh, where he was coached by Ryan Riesmeyer.

“I learned a lot from Coach Riesmeyer and that team got scouted a lot by college coaches,” Blose said. “Playing for them has definitely boosted my abilities in the game.”

Blose carries a 3.9 grade point average at Butler and plans to enter the physical therapy program at Baldwin Wallace.

“Adam is such a competitive kid,” Bachman said. “He competes as hard in practice as he does in the games.

“He will be ready for the next level. There's no doubt in my mind about that.”
