Sentencing Court

Clyde Edward Gifford, 70, of Cranberry will be on county probation for 24 months and must pay a $250 fine after pleading guilty Sept. 12 to simple assault. Gifford was arrested on Oct. 17, 2017, and police initially charged him with simple assault, harassment, reckless endangerment and failing to render aid.

Russell Darren Biondo, 51, of Evans City was sentenced for two cases, one in which he pleaded guilty Aug. 8 to public drunkenness, and another for driving under the influence of drugs and improperly stopping. Biondo was charged for public drunkenness on June 22, 2017, along with possession of drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance. In the driving under the influence case he was charged on May 19, 2017, for possession of drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance. For driving under the influence, he must pay a $1,000 fine and serve 6 months in the county’s intermediate punishment program. He was also assessed a $25 fine for improper stopping and a $50 fine for public drunkenness.

Aeric Bernard Harris, 23, of Ellwood City, was sentenced to a total of 72 hours to 6 months in jail and 6 months of probation after pleading guilty June 29 to driving under the combined influence of drugs and alcohol, driving with a suspended license and failing to stop and give information after an accident. Harris is also facing a combined fine of $3,700 and 60 hours of community service. He received time for credit served and will be immediately paroled once a permanent residence has been established for him. The case stems from a July 15 accident on New Castle Road just east of Conroy Lane. He was originally charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs, possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and hit-and-run. Additionally, he was charged with driving with a suspended license, driving without a license, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without insurance, driving without valid inspection driving with an open container of alcohol, and failing to stop and give information after an accident.

Michael Ryan Sparks, 31, of Butler was sentenced to 36 months of probation after pleading guilty Sept. 13 to terroristic threats he made to a woman on April 10 using a BB gun. Sparks had also been charged with simple assault but that charge was dropped as part of a plea deal.

Stephen Charles Kuzma, 50, of Butler will be under county supervision for a total of 3 years after pleading guilty Sept. 12 to reckless endangerment, harassment and loitering and prowling at night. Kuzma was arrested on Nov. 21, 2017, for trying to break into his ex-wife’s home and fight her boyfriend.
