Symphony ready to open 70th season Saturday evening

Matthew Kraemer, music director and conductor of the Butler County Symphony Orchestra, will talk about the selections for the season-opening concert at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The concert follows at 7:30 p.m. in the Butler Intermediate High School auditorium.

The Butler County Symphony Orchestra will open its 70th season this Saturday with a concert called “Bernstein & Barber.”

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Butler Intermediate High School auditorium. A pre-concert talk with conductor Matthew Kraemer will start at 6:30 p.m.

With this concert, the symphony will honor the centennial of Leonard Bernstein by performing music from “On the Town” and “West Side Story.”

The symphony will also play two works by Samuel Barber.

This show will feature guest artist Juliana Athayde on violin.

Athayde is concertmaster of the Rochester Philharmonic.

“Holiday Traditions,” 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1

“Nordic Winters,” 7:30 p.m. Feb. 2

“Safety Last!” including a silent film, 7:30 p.m. March 2

“Fire & Water,” 3 p.m. April 14.
