Garage fire under investigation
OAKLAND TWP — The state police fire marshal Thursday was investigating a Wednesday night blaze that destroyed a detached garage at a home on the 700 block of Center Drive.
No one was injured in the fire that broke out about 9:30 p.m., authorities said.
Trooper Christopher Balcik, a criminal investigator who serves as a deputy fire marshal, said the cause has not been determined.
He said the owner, Marshall Karenbauer, called 911 after he returned home and discovered the fire.
Flames had already engulfed the two-stall wood garage by the time crews got there, authorities said. The heat from the fire melted some vinyl siding on the house, which is about 50 feet from the garage.
“It's a total loss,” Balcik said of the garage. A car and an all-terrain vehicle were among the contents that were destroyed.
A damage estimate was not immediately available.
Oneida Valley, Lick Hill and Chicora volunteer fire departments battled the blaze as part of the first alarm. Other companies were called to bring tanker trucks.
