SRU men defeated in OT

Slippery Rock University had a six-point lead with 6:36 left in regulation Wednesday night, but dropped an 88-85 overtime decision at Pitt-Johnstown.

Five Rock players scored in double figures, led by Micah Till with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Brandon Simmons had 16 points and nine boards.

Merdic Green scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds, Aaron McDonald had 12 points and Christal Malalu 11 points and eight boards.

SRU fell to 14-4 overall, 8-4 in PSAC West play.

Pitt-Johnstown (8-8, 6-6) was led by Isaac Vescovi’s 31 points. Josh Wise had 20 points and 12 rebounds, Dale Clancy 23 points.

SRU hosts Edinboro at 3 p.m. Saturday at Morrow Field House.

SRU (women) 64, Pitt-Johnstown 60 — The Rock (10-7, 8-4) rallied from a 10-point deficit to pull out this road win.

Sierra Fordham matched her career-high with 15 points and the guard did not commit a turnover in 27 minutes of action. Brooke Hinderliter added 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists to the Rock’s cause.

Madison Johnson had 10 points, Krista Pietropola nine points and six rebounds, Karns City graduate LeeAnn Gibson had seven points and four rebounds. SRU has won three straight games.

Gabrielle Smith paced UPJ (8-9, 5-7) with 14 points and seven rebounds.

SRU hosts No. 17 Edinboro at 1 p.m. Saturday at Morrow Field House.

CCBC 118, Butler County Community College 63 — Brendan Record scored 15 points for the Pioneers (2-15). Joel Stutz and Josh Knochel had 13 each. Jace Stutz had eight rebounds.

Point Park 89, Butler County Community College (women) 67 — Mackenzie Craig had 38 points and 33 rebounds for the Pioneers (3-14). Lydia Roth had 14 points, Carly Burdett 14 rebounds.
