Bikes for all
Father Harry Bielewicz of St. Paul’s Church blessed all the bicycles and kids at the Bicycle Rodeo July 9 at the Butler Farm Market.
Every registered child received a free bicycle. Approximately 175 registered for their pick of 190 used and 15 donated new bicycles. The remainder bikes were donated to Fishbone Ministry to be given to flood victims.
The fire and police departments were 1,000 percent cooperative and helpful.
Butler Lions Club members registered the kids and served food donated by Friedmans Freshmarket and Dominos Pizza.
Donations from the Butler Fire Department, Gaiser Addiction Center, American Legion South Main Street, CW Howard Insurance Co., Butler Lions, Discover Chiropractic, Ginmar Inc. and Thompson Miller Funeral Home helped provide the fun
Carl Slupe, an ARMCO retiree, provided his garage and spare time to repair and safety check every bike.
All the kids were respectful and patient waiting for their number to be called by Jamie Lee Goehring, co-chairman of the event, as numbers were drawn for boys and girls age 5 to 15 to pick out their bike and get their new safety helmet fitted by the city police.
