Forward thinking
Seventeen years ago, Slippery Rock was in a state of decay. The town was not an inviting place to live or open a business, and enrollment at Slippery Rock University was in decline.
Slippery Rock University, Slippery Rock Borough, local businesses and citizens came together to discuss the future of the town. Slippery Rock Development Inc. was formed and worked hard with the other entities to revitalize Slippery Rock.
Greenspace, parks, flowers, trees, decorative sidewalks and refurbished buildings are the results. Improvements in the infrastructure are things that you do not see. The Fairfield Inn and Suites, Ginger Hill Tavern, North Country Brewing and other small businesses are a direct result of this forward thinking.
Slippery Rock Development commends borough council for its forward thinking in purchasing the Gateway parking lot and bank building. Every town needs public parking, not just for what we have to offer now, but also for what may lie ahead.
Slippery Rock is not done growing and prospering. Forward thinking and taking control of our future is the right step to a prosperous Slippery Rock.
