BC3 softball loses in district

The Butler County Community College softball team saw the best season in program history come to an end over the weekend in the NJCAA District H best-of-three championship series against Suffolk County Community College.

The Pioneers lost 9-3 and 11-1.

Knoch graduates Codi Reed, Jessi Reed and Hayle Fox each doubled in the losses.

Codi Reed also had an RBI.

Butler graduate Noel Pfabe and Karns City graduate Saydie Moore each had two singles and an RBI and Slippery Rock High grad Alexis Vogan had an RBI single for BC3.

The Pioneers finished the season 20-5 and were one of the final 16 teams in the country.

Suffolk will move on to the NJCAA World Series in Rochester, Minn., next weekend.

Slippery Rock split a doubleheader Sunday at Seton Hill, winning the first game 7-1 and losing the nightcap, 8-7.

The Rock (26-18, 17-10) will enter the PSAC Tournament as the No. 3 seed out of the Western Division. SRU will play Shippensburg at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday as the tourney begins in Johnstown.

Christian Porterfield had six hits in seven at bats during the twinbill, including three home runs, and collected five RBI and four runs scored.

Joe Campagna added a pair of home runs in the second game. Campagna had hit six home runs in SRU's last 13 games. Lucas Fuscardo had three hits in the twinbill, and Seneca Valley graduate Carson Kessler added a pair.
