George “Mike” Michael Zeitler

George “Mike” Michael Zeitler died peacefully Monday at home in Zelienople after living with cancer for 10 years.

Mike was born March 24, 1937, near East Brady. He was the son of George and Anna Marie Hile Zeitler. He was married to Barbara Lewis Zeitler.

Mike was a graduate of East Brady High School, Penn State University and the University of Colorado in Boulder. He worked for IBM for more than 40 years, work that took him and his family to several cities across the country.

Mike lived a full and rewarding life. In addition to an active family life and a demanding career, there was always something else that needed to be done. Mike could fix anything that needed fixing — he picked up many skills along the way, including electrical, plumbing, appliance repair, and if known skills failed him, he would simply, eventually, figure it out. The endless home improvement projects that made every house he lived in better, more beautiful, were more than “projects.” They were masterpieces of attention to detail, making more out of less and do-it-yourself perfection. The lawn wasn't just mowed, it was manicured; the garden wasn't just planted, it was planned, planted and weeded meticulously.

Everything Mike did he did with great heart, focusing on the best interests of those he loved. He gave heart and soul to those with whom he shared his almost 80 years.

Mike is survived by his wife, Barbara; their children, Regina Wright and her husband, Bob, Linda Steimling and her husband, Glenn, Michael Zeitler and his wife, Kris, and John Zeitler; his grandchildren, Andrea, Brandon, Nicole, Marcus, Colton, Courtney, Austin, Bailey and Riley; his great-grandchild, Brooklyn; and his stepdaughter, Connie Mehlberg and her husband, Jake, and their children, Carter, Brooke and Averi.

He also is survived by his siblings, John and his wife, Carmen, Mary Anne, Dennis and his wife, Jennifer, Joseph and his wife, Sandy, and Andrew and his wife, Mary; his sister-in-law, Shelle Campbell, and her husband, Bob; his brother-in-law, Rick Lewis, and his wife, Bobbie; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his good friend, Charlie Durso.
