Dorothy “Dot” R. Powers Double

Dorothy “Dot” R. Powers Double

Dorothy “Dot” R. Powers Double, 80, of Renfrew, passed away Monday after a bravely fought battle with cancer. She spent her last days constantly surrounded by the love of her family and friends.

Born Dec. 9, 1936, in Gatesville, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Willie B. Meyers Powers. She was Protestant.

Dot was a devoted wife and mother. She married her husband Dec. 13, 1952, just days after her 16th birthday. Their 64th wedding anniversary was Dec. 13, 2016. Together, they forged a life full of love and devotion for one another and their ever-growing family.

Dot was a sassy woman who was full of spunk, stubbornness and a quirky sense of humor. She was outspoken, nosy and opinionated. She spent her free time in water aerobics at the YMCA, watching western films and shopping at Boscov's. She was happy and had a way of making others feel the same. She lacked envy and showed the ultimate satisfaction and love for her life. Above all else, she was proud of her family. She was loved deeply by all who knew her. She was amazing! She left us too soon and she will be profoundly missed.

In addition to her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her brother, Bruce Powers.

Dot is survived by her husband, A. Dean Double; her five beloved children, Deborah (James) Small, Marsha (Paul) Lonchena, Bruce “Bub” (Kim) Double, Sherry (James) Cochran and Tammy (Steven) Calhoun; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her extended family, who she considered her sisters and brothers, Mona and Bob Ford, Nancy Lumley, Peg Double, Reid and Barb Double; and all of her many nieces and nephews.
