Gerald L. Kamer

Gerald L. Kamer, 82, of Saxonburg passed away Monday, Sept. 19, 2016, at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Born Nov. 17, 1933, in Ford City, he was the son of the late Nicholas J. Kamer and Mary Trop Kamer.

Gerald was a 1952 graduate of Ford City High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He attended Clarion University, where he received his bachelor's degree. He continued his education at Pitt, obtaining his master's degree in library sciences. He worked as a librarian for Knoch High School, retiring after 28 years.

Gerald was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Cabot. He also was a volunteer at the South East Butler Senior Center. Gerald enjoyed reading, watching sports, gardening and spoiling his grandchildren.

Surviving are his loving wife, Esther Karl Kamer, who he married Aug. 26, 1961; his sons, John (Kristeen) L. Kamer of Saxonburg and Michael (Cynthia) L. Kamer of Bloomington, Minn.; and four grandchildren, Christina Kamer, Rachel Kamer, Stephen Kamer and Emma Kamer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Kamer.

KAMER — Friends of Gerald L. Kamer, who died Monday, Sept. 19, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Fox Funeral Home, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg.A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church.Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Ford City.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the South Butler Community Library, P.O. Box 454, Saxonburg, PA 16056.
