Harold Ellenberger

Harold Dean Ellenberger, 82, of Chicora passed away Wednesday at his home.

He was born Feb. 2, 1934, in Chicora, the son of Floyd and Ruth (Goldinger) Ellenberger.

Harold was a lifetime resident of Chicora and graduated from Karns City High School. He honorably served in the U.S. Army as a combat engineer and later worked as a mill operator at Castle Rubber.

Harold enjoyed hunting, mostly from his kitchen window, and also liked watching deer and other wildlife. His hobbies included listening to 1950s music and working on oil wells, and he loved tractors and watching things grow, including his own garden.

He was also a member of Butler County Life and the Chicora United Methodist Church, and attended the Petrolia Presbyterian Church.

Harold worked hard to raise his three children by himself and will be best remembered for being a devoted father. He always made everyone he came in contact with smile for one reason or another.

His memory will be cherished by his sons, Gary D. Ellenberger and his wife, Christina, of Chicora and David H. Ellenberger and his wife, Sara, of Karns City; his daughter, Diane L. Shubert and her husband, Todd, of Dayton, Ohio; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his sister, Mary Lawson of Saxonburg.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Dale Ellenberger; and his sister, Lois Barnhart.
